Dynamics
Suspension, Brakes, Unsprung
Dynamics is all about optimizing the mechanical grip and handling characteristics of the vehicle by controlling the tires. Dynamics is split into three subsystems – Suspension, Brakes, and Unsprung. Suspension aims to design a responsive and tight-handling platform, optimizing tire contact with the track and controlling how load transfers across the vehicle. They work with high-level calculations, lightweight carbon fiber linkages, and complex moving assemblies. Brakes develops a powerful and responsive hydraulic braking system to decelerate the car as fast as possible. Their multifaceted assemblies consider hydraulic calculations, thermal characteristics, and driver interfacing. Unsprung creates lightweight yet stiff wheel assemblies that connect suspension linkages to the tires. They work on detailed structural analysis, efficient packaging, and challenging machining.
Dynamics’ skill set includes complex mechanical design, high level vehicle understanding, and all sorts of machining. Members have the opportunity to learn vehicle dynamics, CAD, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), manual and CNC machining, and so much more. We value members who are passionate about learning new things, ask lots of questions, and are intensely motivated to execute challenging hands-on projects.
