Composites
Composites, R&D
Composites works with carbon fiber to manufacture the aeroshell. They utilize composite materials and chemicals such as kevlar, fiberglass, and epoxy in order to manufacture structural composites and carbon fiber mechanical components.
The Research and Development subsystem in the Composites system focuses on expanding the use of composite materials in areas of the car where they have not yet been implemented. Current projects include the development of composite frame and dynamics components. The primary objective is to minimize vehicle mass while maintaining structural integrity by replacing traditionally heavier metal components with lightweight, high-strength composites. Members of this subsystem will engage in material characterization, structural simulation, and component design.
