Manufacturing

The manufacturing system is responsible for supporting the manufacturing, assembly, and maintenance of the combustion cars. It is unique in that it does not specialize in a specific part of the car and instead focuses on optimizing the manufacturing techniques and processes for the entirety of the team.

Members of the manufacturing team focus on learning and implementing hands on skills like manual and CNC machining, TIG welding, and plasma cutting alongside proper Design-For-Manufacturing (DFM) practices to support the other systems of the car during the manufacturing season. These skills translate into the design cycle through manufacturing members working with design teams to improve part geometry, tolerances, and machining strategies before the parts enter the shop.

Once the team enters the full manufacturing cycle, the manufacturing team becomes a central resource for systems to consult during part production. Whether it is deciding on scheduling, tooling, or just helping to machine parts, the manufacturing team plays a vital role in ensuring that the combustion team gets the car on the ground as accurately and quickly as possible.
