Power Systems
Battery Protection System, High Voltage, Low Voltage
Power Systems develops hardware and software for the critical energy storage, power distribution, and high-voltage control systems of our vehicle. A few of our key projects include a custom battery management system (BMS) that monitors the voltage, current, and temperature of our high-voltage battery pack, in addition to a power distribution unit that dynamically monitors and controls our low-voltage system. We also work with the Controls subsystem throughout the software development process to write real-time, safety-critical firmware for the vehicle control unit, which handles interfacing driver and vehicle inputs with the battery and motor (makes the car go zoom :P).
As a Power Systems member, you’ll learn to design and manufacture not just robust circuit boards, but a reliable electronics system by making considerations on all aspects from wire harnessing to overall software and communications structure. Members get countless opportunities for hands-on work — soldering boards, debugging code, and integrating various systems to put our car together. You’ll gain valuable skills in PCB design through KiCad, embedded software development in C, and wire harness simulation using Eplan. If you’re truly enthusiastic about electronics and ready to grow your technical and collaborative skills, Power Systems is the place for you!
